Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Jackson District Curriculum

In Mathematics, the students are challenged with a rigorous curriculum. Algebraic functions, geometry, and problem solving concepts are focused upon in order to prepare the students for the higher math they are going to encounter in high school. The students are engrossed in mathematical concepts through the use of technology of many types, such as computer programs, SmartBoard programs, iPods, iPads, and web-based platforms.

Connected to the study of Math is what students learn in Science. Students learn content about biology, earth and environmental science, physics and chemistry. The scientific inquiry processes they learn are aided by the math they are learning in other courses. In high school, students get to design their own experiments and are responsible for writing up their lab findings. Communication and technology skills also play a role in the core subjects, giving students a chance to explore these other areas of learning.

  • CoolMath - A website used in many classrooms that can really build math skills for the students,CoolMath, is definitely cool! There are countless students that are getting the most from Coolmath.com, as it teaches and reinforces math skills in an interactive way through gaming and videos. It is another way to motivate students that struggle in math, and can help build confidence in those who are hesitant in doing math.
  • Annual Events - The annual homecoming event was a great success. The theme was “Lights, Camera, Aggies!” The homecoming parade started the festivities, and after that there was the Powder Puff game. In addition to these events, homecoming provided a lot of fun times for all! A dance, homecoming shirts for sale, an onsite photographer for dance pictures, and refreshments were all be a part of the festival. Leading up to homecoming, the students had specific attire days that week, such as Twin Day, Sports Day, and Decade Day, to enjoy their school time that much more.
  • BETA Club - Jackson Intermediate School had the annual Beta Club Ceremony to induct the fifth graders into this honorable club. The BETA Club is for students who have demonstrated a love for learning through academic achievement and positive leadership skills. A student with all-around good character and good grades qualifies for this prestigious club, and it accepts students in grades 5-12. Congratulations to the newest members at Jackson Intermediate!
