Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Jackson District Curriculum

In Mathematics, the students are challenged with a rigorous curriculum. Algebraic functions, geometry, and problem solving concepts are focused upon in order to prepare the students for the higher math they are going to encounter in high school. The students are engrossed in mathematical concepts through the use of technology of many types, such as computer programs, SmartBoard programs, iPods, iPads, and web-based platforms.

Connected to the study of Math is what students learn in Science. Students learn content about biology, earth and environmental science, physics and chemistry. The scientific inquiry processes they learn are aided by the math they are learning in other courses. In high school, students get to design their own experiments and are responsible for writing up their lab findings. Communication and technology skills also play a role in the core subjects, giving students a chance to explore these other areas of learning.
