Kelso District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The district philosophy is that where curriculum, instruction and assessment meet, meaningful learning takes place. To this end, the district has systems in place that implement all three aspects of meaningful learning throughout all grade levels. Kelso School District has strategic plans for all core subjects designed to ensure students are learning the skills necessary to be successful, whether in college or career. The expectations in the curriculum are assessed on the standardized assessments and reflect student proficiency and instructional efficacy.
The district has begun to implement the Common Core State Standards in English and Math. The Common Core Standards follow a set of strands that allow the students to build on skills learned the school year before. This use of prior knowledge helps students develop analytic and problem-solving strategies over their school years. Students use reflective thinking to understand new knowledge and this process increases critical thinking.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Kelso District Curriculum
In Math, students develop increasingly complex problem-solving strategies and are able to determine the best method to approach a problem. Science focuses on the process of inquiry and verification and students are encouraged to experiment, collect and analyze data and create solutions to problems. In English, students develop a range of analytic and interpretative thinking skills through their reading and writing.
The curriculum and instructional methods used differentiate instruction to support all students at all grade levels. In the elementary years, pull out and interventions are used for below grade level and advanced students. In the middle and high school levels, students are able to take strategic or advanced classes. The instruction and assessment process allow for supports for students to ensure that they achieve the curricular expectations.

SchoolTutoring Academy gave my daughter the confidence she needed to boost her SAT score Thank you!
SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.
