Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lake Stevens District Curriculum

Middle and high school students continue to improve their literacy skills in required composition classes. In their junior and senior years, students are able to choose their English classes. The district does offer AP English classes, in addition to American and World Literature. District students are required to take Algebra 1 and Geometry and may choose an upper division math elective after completing these courses to fulfill their graduation requirements. Biology must be taken and the state assessment must be passed in order to graduate from the district.

Students have many opportunities available to them which will require their use of core academic skills and knowledge. Students may explore a subject through an independent study and will be required to work on culminating projects during their senior year. These experiences provide students with some of the essential project-based learning experiences which will demonstrate to themselves what they are capable of doing.
