Lake Stevens District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
Curriculum and instruction in Lake Stevens is designed around the Washington State Standards. The Standards represent the essential skills, knowledge and concepts that students need to develop in their courses. Curriculum writers and instructional designers in the district have written lessons based on the learning objectives which are academically rigorous and also relevant to student lives. Subject knowledge is organized so that it builds each year and students are able to tackle complex learning challenges by the end of high school.
Elementary school students in the district are taught literacy through both reading and writing. Students read both literary and informational texts in the upper elementary grades, and begin to write constructively developed essays. Students are expected to use processes for writing such as drafting, revising and editing. In math, students begin to learn number sense, computation, measurement, and ways to comprehend quantitative information. Students receive instruction in Science in every grade which allows them to learn processes of scientific investigation along with the scientific principles they learn about.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lake Stevens District Curriculum
Middle and high school students continue to improve their literacy skills in required composition classes. In their junior and senior years, students are able to choose their English classes. The district does offer AP English classes, in addition to American and World Literature. District students are required to take Algebra 1 and Geometry and may choose an upper division math elective after completing these courses to fulfill their graduation requirements. Biology must be taken and the state assessment must be passed in order to graduate from the district.
Students have many opportunities available to them which will require their use of core academic skills and knowledge. Students may explore a subject through an independent study and will be required to work on culminating projects during their senior year. These experiences provide students with some of the essential project-based learning experiences which will demonstrate to themselves what they are capable of doing.

SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.
