Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lantana District Curriculum
The math curriculum contains a strand which covers data analysis, including probabilities and statistics. In this topic, students learn about relationships between amounts, how to interpret quantitative data from charts and graphs, and how statistics are arrived at. They also learn ways in which statistics are used. By the time they graduate, they will have learn how to create models that assist them in decision-making and estimating outcomes which will help them in whatever their future may hold for them.
The students at Denton Independent School District discover World History through the Social Studies curriculum. This subject introduces students to the important time periods and major world events throughout human history. This includes the study of the Neolithic, or Agricultural, Revolution to the present time and how these events impacted society. It also develops a sense of different civilizations throughout history, which can tie each of the students from today to those around the world, and throughout time.

Chalk Talk: Teaching about Money
Children do not have a natural-born sense about money. They need a little guidance from their parents to learn about it. Parents need to begin teaching them about it when they are young. When shopping, talk with the children about the difference between looking and buying. When looking, a child can get an idea of something they may like, then they have a goal to save for. They can earn money by earning stickers for doing jobs without complaining. At the end of the week, they can get a certain amount for each sticker. Children can also learn how to divide their money by having a place to put money to save, give and spend. By following these hints, parents are helping their children to begin to be responsible money managers.
