Lynn District and Curriculum

The Lynn schools follow the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Curriculum Framework, which governs the curriculum of all public schools in the state, and which incorporates the Common Core Standards adopted by a growing number of states across the nation. The curriculum has many goals including core academic knowledge, the development of critical thinking skills, and the ability to connect areas of learning. The curriculum has a scope and sequence that follows the major themes or topics of the subject along throughout the years.

We currently cover the following Lynn-area school district: Lynn Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lynn District Curriculum

In accordance with this framework, the state’s mathematics curriculum emphasizes the importance of being able to reason about mathematical problems, to use models to represent their understanding, to notice and use mathematical structures and patterns, and to develop reasonable arguments to support their conclusions. These standards also emphasize the need for students to identify the tools that are relevant to solving particular problems, and to develop a sense of persistence as they seek to solve complex problems.

Kindergarten students focus on their ability to work with whole numbers and to describe basic shapes. They are expected to be able to name numbers, count in sequence, compare numbers and count to tell the number of objects, and to grasp the concept of addition and subtraction; to measure, describe and compare objects in mathematical terms; and to identify, describe, and create geometrical shapes to describe real-world objects. They learn the names and roles of different geometrical shapes, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional.
