Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mendota District Curriculum

The curriculum framework in math explains what types of skills that students will learn at each grade level within the broad topics of math. As students move into high school level mathematics, the specific learning objectives specify the topic with an overview to which prior mathematical skills will be required for understanding. Science instruction is organized around foundational principles of scientific research and the base of knowledge in subjects like chemistry and physics.

The Language Arts curriculum has a similar broad focus and delivers the range of skills that students will need to develop in order to read and write across genres and for different purposes. The strategies for developing analytic or interpretative thought, and to write an evaluation are provided. Skills for understanding language, voice and how to distinguish fact from opinion are also a facet of the Language Arts curriculum.
