Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Middletown District Curriculum

Mathematics is a core subject taught in all grades in the Appoquinimink School District. Many measures have been taken in order to ensure students receive the correct education to be able to compete on a college and university level with students from around the globe. The Appoquinimink School District believes that mathematics is a core topic which must be taught with high priority in the classroom, and that no student must be labeled as “unable” to learn math.

Students are frequently assessed in their mathematical skill, in order to maintain a good performance record. Mathematics is taught beginning from kindergarten, where children are taught about the number core, learning how to count and manipulate numbers. These skills are then transferred to elementary and secondary school, where students are gradually introduced to topics and skills required to comprehend and solve various mathematical problems.

It is a lifelong problem: secondary education is a very large investment, both financially and time wise, so should this investment be made into a profitable education, or spend four years of your life immersed in a topic which truly intrigues you. While this may have been a problem even up to a decade ago, there is a new trend of college and university courses which are addressing this issue. With the new programs in place, you can now follow both paths of profit and passion. By either choosing a double major course, or choosing new hybrid programs which merge programs that can be used both to interest your mind and pocket, you can have the best of both worlds. All you must do is ensure that you do your research and not make decisions without fully exploring your options.
