Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Milford District Curriculum
Milford’s high school students take part in a social studies curriculum that introduces them to global issues. Students learn about the value of alliances, trade agreements, and treaties in protecting the interests of nations and promoting global commerce. Learners explore how technology has furthered the cooperation between nations in a number of pursuits, particularly in addressing global issues such as hunger, poverty, and violence. Human rights are a primary area of focus as well. Students learn about the ways in which nations around the world both support and deny human rights.
In elementary school, Milford students are introduced to technology and learn how to utilize technological tools to advance their learning. Students learn how to use computers, tablets, the Internet, and various software applications to expand their learning space. Learners utilize technology to create everything from simple word documents to spreadsheets and presentations. In addition to learning how to use technology for productivity purposes, Milford’s students also use it to enhance their ability to communicate with others. Learners use tools like social media and Skype to interact with students from across the globe.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: Benefits of Experiential Learning
Getting kids out of their desks and actively involved and engaged in learning is key to helping them improve retention of information and understanding of that information. When students can be active in their learning, interest in the subject matter is increased, which, in turn, results in improved course grades. Performance on standardized tests is improved as well. Students are far more able to understand key topics, which facilitates a much deeper level of knowledge in their coursework as well. Additionally, experiential learning gives students the opportunity to build practical skills that will help them in their future studies or career pursuits. Students have to learn how to communicate well, work well with others, and manage their time effectively, among other key skills. In short, when structured appropriately, experiential learning can be among the most impactful methods by which students can learn.
