Chalk Talk: Benefits of Experiential Learning

Getting kids out of their desks and actively involved and engaged in learning is key to helping them improve retention of information and understanding of that information. When students can be active in their learning, interest in the subject matter is increased, which, in turn, results in improved course grades. Performance on standardized tests is improved as well. Students are far more able to understand key topics, which facilitates a much deeper level of knowledge in their coursework as well. Additionally, experiential learning gives students the opportunity to build practical skills that will help them in their future studies or career pursuits. Students have to learn how to communicate well, work well with others, and manage their time effectively, among other key skills. In short, when structured appropriately, experiential learning can be among the most impactful methods by which students can learn.
