Chalk Talk: How to Identify a Good Tutor

When looking for a tutor, first set out your expectations, goals, and budget. With this in hand, you are ready to begin your search. To find tutors, check in with your local school. They may have contacts. Students from the local high school or college may be able to help as well. Word of mouth is a good way to find out about the best tutors. Also, there should be tutoring companies in your area which offer after school tutoring. Determine the schedule that would work best for you and your child and discuss scheduling with the tutor. Once you have found some options, find out which tutors can meet your needs for the budget you have. Once you have narrowed your search, set up a single session and see if you work well with the tutor. They should be able to assess where you are and help you understand without doing your work for you.
