Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Montville Township District Curriculum

The Montville Township School District seeks to ensure that each student is afforded opportunities to meet proficiencies on state-mandated standards and develop a skillset that will allow them to be successful in school and later in life and careers. To accomplish their goals, the district develops curricula according to the rigorous guidelines set forth in the Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.

A central component of the science curriculum is developing student understanding of the physical sciences, including fundamental ideas about motion, energy and matter. Beginning in preschool, students learn to manipulate, describe and sort objects based on their physical properties. In elementary school students learn to classify objects as solids, liquids or gasses and learn to differentiate between objects that are composed of single or multiple elements. Once in middle school, students learn to calculate the volume and density of an object and learn the elements of the periodic table.
