Chalk Talk: What Parents Should Expect in Kindergarten

Sending your child to school can be a stressful time for you and your child both. But kindergarten is designed to be incredibly supportive of your child so he or she can make the transition from preschool into public school. Much of kindergarten focuses on building essential skills, such as speaking and listening, sharing, social and emotional skills, and of course academic skills. The vehicle by which these skills are developed is typically through some form of play – games to learn academic skills, cooperative play to learn how to share, and so forth. There are a lot of hands-on activities as well, so children stay engaged and focused on learning. By making kindergarten a fun, supportive, and active atmosphere, your child’s teacher will help prepare your child to continue their education throughout elementary, middle, and high school.
