Chalk Talk: Performing Arts: Two Schools of Thought

When students intend to pursue performing arts careers, choosing the right college can be tricky. Most colleges have performing arts programs, and most major cities, and many smaller ones, have thriving performing arts scenes. The question is often which to focus on: the college or the location. Many of the more well-known performing arts programs are located at fairly isolated colleges. In this setting, students are free from distraction to fine-tune their craft. There might not be much of a community outside of the college in which to perform, but internships and other opportunities are usually available for a student willing to find them. On the other hand, some students will simply decide which city they think has the best scene for their particular performing art and find a college there. The college might not have the strongest program, but there will be lots of opportunities for students to hone their craft on stage.
