Middle school English language arts students in New Hope master a range of skills related to speaking and listening effectively. One-on-one, small group, and class discussions facilitate the development of strong listening skills. Students learn how to take turns when speaking, while also giving attention to other speakers. Preparation for discussions is stressed, with students arriving to class having conducted reading or research as per their assignments. Using this information, learners develop well-informed perspectives on a variety of topics, which they are able to defend in the context of a discussion.

Students examine tectonic actions, comparing and contrasting events that happen at convergent and divergent boundaries. Chalk Talk: Benefits of Full-Day Kindergarten

Although most school districts seem to have adopted full-day kindergarten, there are still many half-day programs out there. Families with children that kindergarten age should be aware that full-day courses offer a variety of benefits. Children enrolled in full-day kindergarten demonstrate higher achievement over the long-term. They get in the habits of school at an early age, and this establishes important skills and learning pathways for the children. This includes improved reading and writing abilities, as well as higher overall test scores. Full-day kindergarten results in fewer grade retentions for students, due in large part to the additional time teachers have to spend one-on-one with students. Research also shows that full-day kindergarten students acquire more advanced social skills than their peers, have increased independence, and greater levels of creativity.
