New Kensington District and Curriculum
The curriculum in the New Kensington-Arnold School District focuses upon the core areas of Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science, building upon the Pennsylvania Core State Standards in those subjects. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the New Kensington District Curriculum
In Math, skills develop from using manipulatives in kindergarten and primary school as a foundation for basic skills in math operations. Those basic operations form a background for pre-algebra and algebra concepts. In addition, students have the opportunity go beyond basic skills into both abstract and practical applications of Math in middle school and high school. In advanced topics in geometry or algebra, students are able to develop their abilities to abstract information; through technology courses students see practical uses for topics such as algorithms.
Students can choose between academic and college prep programs, vocational and technical studies, and use innovative resources including computer-assisted learning and wireless connections. The New Kensington-Arnold School District features a full spectrum of programs that align with core standards, preparing students for the future. The goal is to have a mixture of traditional academics and electives or extracurricular programs that students want to participate in.

Keeping Informed: Recent New Kensington Educational News
- Pro Football Player Stars in Special Assembly - A pro football star was the special guest at a New Kensington area school assembly last year. He visited the school to recognize students who scored high in math on the Pennsylvania System of School Achievement Tests, given in third grade. He congratulated them on their achievement, and talked to them about working hard and learning from teachers.
- CSI Team Is on the Case - The award winning CSI team from a New Kensington middle school won first place in a mystery team competition. They used deductive reasoning and forensic skills to find the most likely culprit in a mock crime scene.
- Students Unearth A Time Capsule - Students recently participated in a community-wide event in which they opened a time capsule that held mementos from when the school first opened. High school students were invited back to the program to see what they put in the box when they were in elementary school.
