Educating Our Parents: Understanding the North Las Vegas District Curriculum
Elementary school students move into middle school equipped with the tools they need to succeed – an understanding of the nature of mathematics as well as a basic, integrated understanding of math operations, algebra, and geometry. The high mathematics standards in high school center around 21st Century Course of Study Expectations and provides the structure and skills expectations for basic courses like algebra and geometry, and more advanced course like Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Statistics.
English Language Arts (ELA) learning in elementary school is broken down into its constituent parts: reading, writing, and language (grammar). In addition to understanding the basics of sentence construction and grammar, learning is geared toward helping students understand and apply informational texts (nonfiction) to other subjects like science and mathematics. The high school ELA curriculum emphasizes composition and understanding themes in literature.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: Grocery Cart Classroom
Parents who are aware of what their children are learning in school can reinforce the concepts in their child’s classroom throughout their daily life experiences. Something as simple as going grocery shopping together can help children of all ages apply and see the relevance of the information they are getting in school. Small children can use their observational skills to describe the colors, sounds, and smells they are experiencing, using their senses to gather information about the world. Addition can be practiced in a number of ways – two apples, plus three oranges equals five pieces of fruit. As children’s addition skills advance, they can even start to tally the costs of the items in the cart and see if they are right when they get to the checkout register.
