Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Norwood District Curriculum
In social studies, Norwood high school students take part in an in-depth study of American government. One primary focus of the government curriculum is civic involvement. Students study current and former political parties and platforms and develop an understanding of the processes in which citizens can influence party platforms. The role of civic participation is also explored, with students gaining insight into how the public can be engaged in civic affairs.
The physical education curriculum focuses on several primary areas. Standard one focuses learning on motor skills and movement patterns associated with common physical activities such as running and playing sports. Standard two seeks to improve students’ understanding of the concepts and strategies related to learning physically based skills and demonstrating their mastery through physical activity. Standard three revolves around encouraging children to see the value in physical activity, from its involvement in reducing stress and increasing healthfulness.

Keeping Informed: Recent Norwood Educational News
- Marching Band Wins Honors - The Norwood High School Marching Band recently won several awards at the Green High School Band Invitational. The band won best color guard and percussion in their class, as well as best percussion overall.
- Norwood City Schools Receive Grant - The Ohio Board of Regents recently selected Norwood City Schools as one of only four districts in the state to receive a grant from GEAR UP. The GEAR UP program seeks to prepare first-generation college students for post-secondary success.
- Staff Members Recognized for Commitment to Improvement - Norwood City Schools has honored four staff members for their continuing commitment to improving the district’s delivery of services. All four members of the IT department received the Rising Star award for October.
