    Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Othello District Curriculum

    The math curriculum used by the district emphasizes math fluency and computation skills for all elementary students. Expert 21 and Fast Math, both by scholastic are used as math resources in the classroom. In kindergarten, students begin learning how to observe the world around them and some basic life science. Each year, students receive additional content instruction in physical and life sciences.

    In high school, all students must take Algebra 1 and Geometry and then choose from approved electives to complete their Math graduation requirements. All freshman and sophomore students must take English Composition classes, although they may choose to take honors courses. In Science, Biology is a required course and students are able to choose from other courses of study beyond successful completion of this requirement.

    Keeping Informed: Recent Othello Educational News

    • Science Center - Representatives from the Pacific Science center visited local elementary schools to share some awesome science with the kids. Students were able to use the hands on models brought by the demonstrators, and try some things for themselves. The exhibit allowed kids to see how science affects their everyday lives.
    • National Honor Society - Students from Othello High School were inducted into the National Honor Society. To be a member of this exclusive club, a student must do more than keep a high GPA. Students must complete community service, be recommended by teachers, and receive letters of recommendation from members of the community. This society is open to juniors and seniors.
    • Learn 360 - The district has purchased a subscription to the educational website learn360 and it is available to all students in the district. The website supports what is being taught in the classroom. Students are able to complete lessons, take quizzes, and play games all based on the curriculum and Washington State Standards.
