Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Piedmont District Curriculum

In science classes, students are taught to approach problems with analytical reasoning skills, since they are well-versed in core concepts. In humanities classes, students read for comprehension and write analytically responsive essays; they pose questions and collect evidence to support their theories, using citations and specific examples from the text. Students are taught their country’s role in history so that they are aware of their own responsibilities as citizens.

Students are also offered technical subjects and many extracurricular activities to help them become educated, engaged members of their communities with varied interests and skills. This will serve them well in our increasingly global economy, where diversity is celebrated. Students who take responsibility for their own learning tend to be more successful, not only in high school and post-secondary education, but beyond, and it is the goal of Piedmont High School to encourage this respect for learning.

Chalk Talk: Rolling Applications vs. Regular Decision

Rolling Applications are a kind of college application which essentially lacks a deadline and has a quick reporting time. Usually, Rolling Applications open fairly early, and close pretty late, but students are free to apply within that time period, as opposed to sticking to a set deadline. Once the student has applied, the college tends to respond quickly, usually in three to four weeks. This is because in Regular Decision applications, the college may not even read an application until the deadline has passed, and they rarely give an answer until the deadline is passed. Even if a student applies before the deadline, they probably won’t get a response until the deadline passes. Rolling Applications are much quicker because the college reads them immediately and decides quickly.
