Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pinole District Curriculum

In the subject of Language Arts, the curriculum serves the broad goals of developing communication and literacy skills applicable to all other subjects. The goals of teaching strategies to comprehend main ideas and critical details, understanding the craft of literature, and the ability to integrate new ideas into prior knowledge are central goals. This is accomplished by asking students to conduct work that takes them into fiction, drama, poetry, memoir, editorials, and non-fiction in texts and their own writing.

In Science, students develop process-oriented learning and thinking skills through the investigation they do in Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and other advanced topics. Subjects such as Environmental Science and Technology courses are also offered and are guided by curriculum that emphasize the learning outcomes. However, it is the specific skills within each subject that accomplishes this goal by developing a base of learning strategies for each student.
