Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Redan District Curriculum
Although the curriculum objectives are aligned with the national core curriculum standards in DeKalb County the teachers and administrators work diligently to ensure that the curriculum is academically rich, and focuses on the best interests of the students while being culturally diverse. Through maintaining a culturally diverse curriculum lessons will be more appealing to a broader range of students and there for students will be effectively engaged in the learning process.
Throughout all grade levels the core subject areas are Science, Technology, Mathematics, English/Language Arts, and Social Studies. Students are tested regularly to ensure that they comprehend the material that is covered and that they are able to apply their knowledge to various tasks. There are also required courses in Physical Education, Health, and Modern Languages these courses are held to the same standards as the core curriculum and students are expected to demonstrate mastery of these skills.These courses are intended to allow students to further explore their unique interests and talents.

Keeping Informed: Recent Redan Educational News
- AP Honors - The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) has been recognized as one of only seven school districts statewide and of only 539 in the U.S. and Canada. This recognition was given by the College Board. DeKalb received this recognition by qualifying for placement on the 3rd Annual Advanced Placement District Honor Roll. This recognition was for increasing student access to Advanced Placement (AP) course work and increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams.
- College Fair Focused on Special Needs Students - DeKalb county has joined together with the Council of PTA’s to offer a college and career readiness fair for students and families of special needs children. This fair is provided free of cost and will host numerous college and business representatives. Representatives from colleges, universities, technical schools and vocational institutions will be available to offer resources. The fair will also offer several breakout sessions covering topics such as student disability laws, what to expect as a student with disabilities in college and how to live a full and productive adult life.
- National Career and Tech Competition - DeKalb County School System was thrilled when they heard the news that nearly 40 of their students were given top 10 honors at the National Career and Tech Competition. This competition highlights the success that students have in various areas of Career pathways and Technological training. These students with the help of their teachers, advisors, and principals, entered projects from areas such as Engineering, Family and Consumer Science, Healthcare Science, Business and Computer Science, and Trade and Industrial programs to compete with schools from all across the country. With nearly 40 top 10 finishes DeKalb is impressed and delighted with the dedication and knowledge that is possessed by its students.
