Chalk Talk: How to Choose a Major

Students are encouraged when entering university or college to consult their admissions representative or academic advisor for assistance with choosing a major. Majors are offered now in almost every subject such as Psychology, Philosophy, English, Sociology, Math, the Sciences, and so on. Students often struggle with making a concrete choice on what subject to focus on since there are so many interesting subjects to choose from. However, the type of major a student chooses often reveals what types of careers the student may be drawn to and his or her particular strengths. For instance, many psychology majors often pursue careers as psychologists, psychometrists, career counselors, human resources managers, even organizational psychological analysts in the business world. English majors may decide to become freelance writers even children's book writers or English teachers. Focusing on a major may give students a deeper focus and insight into their talents while helping to nurture their passions and preparing for a satisfying career.
