Rock Springs District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Sweetwater County School District follows the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards as the curriculum standard used from elementary through high school. The Wyoming Content and Performance Standards cover all core topics as well as foreign languages, the arts, technology, and career/vocational training so that students are ensured an education in each area based on rigorous standards. The curriculum gives information about the types of skills and knowledge students should gain as well as the critical thinking goals of the subject but gives teachers the freedom to use their creativity in designing lessons based on the objectives.

We currently cover the following Rock Springs-area school district: Sweetwater County School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Rock Springs District Curriculum

The Math curriculum in the district is based on Common Core Standards and details the skills students should gain in the areas of numeracy, algebra, geometry, and data analysis during their education. By late middle school, students will be working with algebraic equations and expressions in preparation for high school in which polynomial and rational expressions and reasoning through problems with equations is introduced. The learning objectives are rigorous, however the complexity is built from knowledge students have amassed in previous years.

The geometry portion of the curriculum begins with basic shape and spatial awareness. Students learn different ways to measure shapes, their area and learn about circumference, radii, and the function of numbers like pi. In high school, students work with topics such as congruence, learn how to express geometric properties with equations, learn about the application of theorems and how to model their geometry knowledge. Students may also advance on to trigonometry and statistics and analyzing data.

Chalk Talk: Beyond the Classroom Learning

Today's students face a rigorous curriculum in core subjects, languages, career/technical training, and the arts to ensure they are academically well-rounded students. Beyond these core subjects, however, the schools focus on teaching students about community service and character education on a regular basis. Sometimes this is accomplished through school-wide initiatives or classroom service projects, and sometimes these endeavors are encouraged through extracurricular activities like participation in community outreach or social awareness projects. These activities not only teach students about the importance of these facets of their development, but often helps them to gain project planning skills, collaborative abilities, and the opportunity to gain leadership skills.
