Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Romeoville District Curriculum
The curriculum acknowledges that students have unique capabilities and learning styles, though all students are expected to perform at a proficient level which is ensured through clear academic requirements in alignment with Common Core State Standards. The focus of these standards is on maintaining strong K-12 literacy and mathematics programs with a common language of universal instructional expectations that are aligned with research-based best practices in instruction.
The curriculum supports a balanced and holistic assessment system that ensures targeted instruction and intervention to deliver accurate information throughout the learning process to ensure proficiency is met and students achieve their full potential, by examining each student’s level of mastery within each subject. Assessments are also given through the research projects and portfolios that students compile.

Chalk Talk: How To Write a College Essay
When students sit down to write a college application essay, they often aren’t entirely sure of what it is they’re trying to accomplish. The purpose of the essay is twofold. One purpose is to demonstrate the student’s writing ability, creativity, and the like. For this reason, the essay should be polished and proofed. The second purpose is to help humanize the applicant for the college admissions panel. The essay is an opportunity for the student to demonstrate his/her personality, concerns or interests, and maybe some pertinent information about the student. Humor can be a great tool to help show the applicant’s personality. Also, having something at stake in the essay can help. Consider what this essay actually tells the readers about the applicant. What qualities are demonstrated? Does the essay give a genuine portrait of the concerns and personality of the applicant? If the answer to any of these questions is no, you might want to consider revising the essay.
