Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Rosemead District Curriculum
The phrase college and career ready implies that students will have gained critical thinking skills, problem-solving strategies, and have the ability to communicate them clearly. The Math framework details clear skills that students need to learn in order to problem solve using tools, through proportional relationships, using models and data analysis strategies. Through this set of courses students develop their abstract and quantitative reasoning skills.
The Language Arts framework broadly encompasses the goals for readership and the development of writing skills. Students are introduced to phonetical and structural strategies to determine word meaning. Students are also expected to do a good deal of independent reading. These literacy basics enable the goals of being able to decode meaning in more complex texts and to read for the purpose of gaining information. In turn, interpretation, evaluation and a host of communication skills are developed.
