Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Rouyn-Noranda District Curriculum

Students in Rouyn-Noranda are taught by a curriculum developed by the provincial Department of Education. This curriculum describes what students are expected to learn in their subjects; these expectations provide the basis by which students are able to progress in their education.

Specialized programs that students join later in their school years, like Outdoor Education, Career-oriented programs, religious education, intercultural education or adult and continuing education also have curricula developed that explain what students in these programs will learn. These curricula offer a way to organize the delivery of knowledge without designating how lessons must be taught. Teachers may use a range of lessons and methods to teach these standards, and by doing so students are exposed to the breadth and depth of a subject.
