Educating Our Parents: Understanding the San Leandro District Curriculum
In English/Language Arts, the subject is organized around reading literary and informational texts, writing and revising processes, listening, and speaking. These areas helps to develop critical thinking, interpretative and analytic skills in students. In Math, students are instructed in numerical operations, algebraic operations, geometry and measurement, and statistics and probability each year. Over the years, this compounds their procedural knowledge and draws out their problem-solving, and logical and mathematical reasoning skills.
In other academic courses and specialized programs like Advanced Placement or a small school there are also curriculum that describe the expectations for learning and explain how other learning areas will be introduced into the student's coursework.
