Sapulpa District and Curriculum

Students’ success in a global society is one of the premier objectives in Sapulpa City Schools. The core curriculum of English Language Arts and Mathematics and the remainder of the comprehensive K-12 curriculum has objectives that have been developed by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

We currently cover the following Sapulpa-area school district: Sapulpa Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Sapulpa District Curriculum

In English Language Arts, concepts within the curriculum include the acquisition of new vocabulary. Students are exposed to words they are not familiar with in all subject areas. The teachers instruct the students on ways to figure out the meanings of the vocabulary words by the use of context clues, word origins, looking at the affixes, using a glossary or dictionary, and by reading ahead and comprehending the text.

Within Math, students will learn how to solve more difficult problems in terms of number sense as they enter the middle grades. The multiplication and division of decimals of two or more digits to find the actual answer is a concept in which the students must become successful. Students also learn to estimate to a variety of single and multi-step problems with the use of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and percentages and be able to come close to what the actual answer would be. Integers are also introduced at this stage, and students explore the use of integers and use basic operations with this concept.

Chalk Talk: The Role of the School Nurse

The school nurse does much more than take care of sick students. They are responsible for administering medications during the day, attending to daily needs of students that require special assistance, completing paperwork, contacting parents, and more. The nurse is the person employed during the school that the children go to when not feeling well, and she has the responsibility of making the important decision on what to do with the student to make them feel better. The school nurse also must be ready to act in cases of emergencies. The schools truly appreciate their school nurses!
