Chalk Talk: The Importance of Reading

While reading may not be every child’s favorite activity, it is still a highly important activity to undertake. The more a child reads, the better the grasp they have on essential processes of reading and writing. Additionally, kids that read often have much larger vocabularies and an improved ability to communicate with others. Reading also opens the reader’s mind to other places in the world. Studies show that frequent readers demonstrate an enhanced capacity for empathy and understanding of others. Reading is also an excellent activity for children to escape the daily grind. They also gain the ability to self-reflect and develop personal insights they might not gain during a conversation or using other forms of media. In addition to the stress-relieving qualities of reading, it is a great way for kids to clear their minds, calm down, and relax.
