Chalk Talk: How to Provide Quality Breakfasts For Students

With all the benefits connected with eating a good breakfast before school, it is easy to see the benefits of making breakfast a priority in your home. But how do you make it a priority, and how do you prepare nutritional food fast? Getting up for breakfast is much easier if your student has had a good night’s sleep. Making sleep a priority is another conversation, but keep it in mind if your child can’t seem to drag themselves out of bed for breakfast in the morning. Providing a wholesome meal for your student will vary from home to home, student to student, and what they are used to. Providing foods with fiber, carbohydrates, and protein will help your student stay awake and stay full until lunch. Such meal examples include cereals such as granola or bran cereals with milk. The sugary chocolate cereals might taste good, but they likely won’t hold your child all the way until lunch. Hot cereals are another great option as well as cream cheese on whole wheat bagel, or a whole grain muffin with milk and a side of fruit. If you have time, you might prepare an egg with whole wheat toast. In each of these examples you find protein, carbohydrates, and fiber.
