Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Scotts Valley District Curriculum

The curriculum in Language Arts is used to guide instruction in literacy and communication in subjects that range the subject span. Student writing is of particular importance, and students are expected to clearly express their thoughts for purposes such as reflection, explanation, or persuasion. In Math, the goal is to develop the skill base for problem-solving and quantitative reasoning. The different subjects within Math provide student the opportunity to gain the requisite range of skills.

The curricular framework for Science is guided by the principles of investigation and laboratory experiments. Students learn basic scientific concepts and in high school have the opportunity to apply this knowledge and the understanding of the scientific process to advanced learning challenges in the sciences. It is by laying a solid foundation in ability that students are able to strategize and evaluate information.
