Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Scottsbluff District Curriculum

In grades K-12, the Mathematics curriculum of Scottsbluff School District includes learning number sense and number concepts, using a variety of strategies to reason, communicating quantitative information, and solving problems using whole numbers as well as fractions. Computation, estimation, various operations (such as within graphing, measurement and algebraic equations) and using number sense by having the knowledge of what “looks” right, even after solving, are some of the strands in the mathematics curriculum.

Within the K-12 curriculum of Reading, standards contain: the learning of print knowledge, such as one-to-one correspondence of words and their spacing, phonemic awareness, the analysis of words and sentence structure, fluency while reading, comprehension of many texts, and the learning of new vocabulary within the texts. This enables students to read for meaning and knowledge, bringing about analytic reading skills.

Chalk Talk: Managing Extracurricular Clubs

Being a teacher, and then staying after school to manage a club, can be very rewarding. There are many teachers that are club sponsors and are responsible for conducting after school practices and taking students to competitions. Clubs like Forensics, FFA, Student Council, drama, chorus, and many others are put in place to help the student’s branch out and do something they are passionate about. Clubs help children socially and give them a positive outlet. Get involved in your favorite organization or club today!
