Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Shawinigan District Curriculum
The curriculum that is used in schools of Shawinigan covers the subject areas at the elementary and secondary level, and also in settings like religious education, intercultural education, adult education and a range of other specific program areas. The curriculum is a framework for what a student should know within each subject at their grade level.
These specific areas represent the skills and knowledge that a student is expected to attain in order to be prepared for the next steps in their learning. Each subject has standards of learning that are based upon the knowledge expected of students upon entering college and the workforce.
SchoolTutoring Academy’s tutoring programs for Shawinigan students start with a free academic assessment with an Academic Director. Our flagship tutoring programs are available for $199.99/month which include regular one-on-one tutoring, academic mentorship, bi-monthly progress reports, learning profiles, and parental conference calls.
Keeping Informed: Recent Shawinigan Educational News
- Community Action and Outreach - Local area students are participating in a program by the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization to help counter bullying at the elementary school level. Older students make time to be on hand to help out in social situations that younger students might need some help in. Following on the footsteps of nationwide attention to this social matter, students are showing impressive initiative.
- Grand Challenge - Over the winter, students at one local area elementary school were visited by the Grand Challenge Pierre Lavoie which is a combination vehicle and education center. The focus is on increasing healthfulness in the lives of students; the vehicle offers both a gym and a learning center where students can participate in hands-on learning in health and wellness topics.
- Expanding Program Offerings - The local district continually develops program offerings to respond to the needs of the students and community. Recently, the district opened up a Secretarial Program and a Daycare Educator Program to prepare students for their first steps in future work and learning pursuits.
