The students attending Hamilton County Department of Education schools learn reading, writing, listening and speaking through the English curriculum. Each of these subjects work together to help build a foundation. An example can be found in the reading of Shakespeare. The students may read one of his works, then research the time period while writing a presentation to present to the entire class. Chalk Talk: Multiple Intelligences

Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory recognizes the different areas of intelligence that students have. The original seven intelligence types include verbal/linguistic, mathematical/logical, spatial/visual, musical, kinesthetic, intrapersonal, and interpersonal. Spiritual and naturalist were later added. Students who are verbal/linguistic students tend to learn best through reading and writing. Mathematical/logical learners excel in process-oriented problem-solving challenges. Students who have strong spatial/visual intelligence often have a creative and design streak and grasp of how things work together. Kinesthetic learners require hands-on learning opportunities to maximize what they are learning. Interpersonal learners enjoy working in groups and interacting with others through dialogue.
