Educating Our Parents: Understanding the St. Paul Park District Curriculum
The elementary math curriculum in St. Paul Park gives students an introduction to essential skills in geometry and measurement. Students learn various shapes, including the differences between types of triangles, as well as the names of trapezoids, hexagons, and prisms. Learners are introduced to tools that assist in measurement, such as rulers, and learn how to correlate numbers on the ruler with units of measurement. Currency is explored as well. Students identify different coins and learn their denominations. Learners also acquire the ability to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.
High school students in St. Paul Park have the opportunity to explore various art classes as part of the visual and performing arts curriculum. Music students refine their ability to play an instrument or sing, gaining advanced skills in reading music, performing music, and composing music. Learners participate in individual as well as ensemble performances, and perform music from a variety of genres and cultures. I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: Preparing for the SAT Math Test
With so much emphasis placed on SAT scores for college entrance, ensuring your child is as prepared as possible before taking the SAT will ensure they get the best score they can. To improve their chances of doing well on the math subject test, your child should complete at least algebra I, algebra, II and geometry classes before taking the test. Even so, there should still be plenty of studying occurring in the weeks and months prior to the test. Studying for the SAT math test should include using an SAT study guide to get familiar with the format of the test and wording of the questions as well. And the test should be taken as soon after the conclusion of geometry as possible, so your child has the concepts fresh in his or her mind. If your child follows these guidelines, they will be best prepared to take the SAT math test.
