Summerside District and Curriculum

Summerside’s K-12 students attend classes in the West Clermont Local School District. Because of the district’s small size, students enjoy small class sizes and one-on-one learning time with their teachers. In close proximity to Cincinnati, the district’s students also enjoy many learning opportunities that are usually not afforded to such small school districts. By harnessing local resources as well as those in Cincinnati, the district has devised a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning that maximizes students’ acquisition of essential academic knowledge and skills. The district is also committed to helping students learn and grow in other realms, such as socially and emotionally.

We currently cover the following Summerside-area school district: West Clermont Local School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Summerside District Curriculum

The science curriculum in Summerside includes the study of life science, physical science, and earth-space science in middle school. In the life science strand, students examine the process of cell division and investigate how new cells are created. In physical science, learners take an in-depth study of motion and matter. Linear motion, energy, and particulate matter are all central subjects in that strand. The earth-space portion of the curriculum involves an examination of various rocks and soils.

Summerside’s high school social studies curriculum culminates with an exploration of contemporary world issues. Leaners explore the subject of international relations, and identify some of the most pressing issues facing the world today. The increasing globalization that is taking place is also discussed. Students examine military alliances, trade agreements, and various technologies that contribute to an increasing level of interconnectedness between nations. Issues of the 21st century are also an important aspect of the curriculum.

Chalk Talk: Ways Art Benefits Children

Having access to quality art programs is essential for kids to achieve their maximum potential. Dance, visual arts, theatre, and music can all promote many academic benefits. Among these benefits are improved scores on standardized testing. These improved scores are seen particularly in math and reading. This should be of no surprise, because the arts require analytical skills, much like those necessary for math. Research shows that specialized art programs positively impact reading scores as well, in some cases by as much as double-digits. The concentration and attention requirements of the arts are likewise beneficial for classroom studies. In fact, arts students demonstrate a greater capacity for concentration than do their peers. Creativity and innovative thinking are also qualities that are facilitated by studying the arts. Not only do these skills lead to benefits in education, they will serve students well throughout their lives.
