Chalk Talk: How To Wow Them with a College Resume
The first thing to consider with a college resume is layout. The resume, itself, should be as simple and straightforward as possible, easy to read, and only one page long. Name, contact information, and GPA are centered at the top, and extracurricular activities should be grouped in four or five sections below, bulleted with a section title, with each activity including the period of time the student participated and a brief description of the student’s responsibilities with the activity. This doesn’t have to be in complete sentences but should be clear and easy to understand. This brings us to the second thing to consider: impact. Each item on a college resume should demonstrate at least two, if not more, qualities the applicant has. For example, let’s say you were the leader of club that promoted diversity. This demonstrates involvement in a club (especially assuming you were in it for more than one year, as one would think a leader would be) along with leadership and an appreciation for diversity.
