Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Thompson District Curriculum
The Science curriculum has a series of general and specific learning outcomes for students to achieve each year. Students learn about biology, chemistry and physical science, environmental science, engineering and technology. They also learn about the process of scientific inquiry and how hypotheses are tested. In later years, one unit of study is the Interdisciplinary Topics in Science which uses Lake Manitoba as a starting point for student understanding of the importance of science in their community.
There are both general and specific learning outcomes for students to achieve in the Math curriculum also. In grade ten, students work with analysis of numbers, personal financial literacy, measurement, and 2-D geometry. They may also be introduced to topics in trigonometry, transformations, angle construction and learn how these are used in practical applications. In grade eleven, students work with concepts such as relations and functions, algebra, statistics, and be introduced to different types of logical reasoning used in math.
