Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ukiah District Curriculum
In Language Arts, it is through strategies in decoding language, crafting written expression, and understanding and analyzing texts that students gain their analytic, interpretative, and evaluative thinking skills. In Math, the skills developed in geometry, algebra, or the analysis of data provides students with the range of problem-solving skills they will need in the more in-depth courses in high school. In Science, the curriculum specifies that students will learn how to investigate and conduct experiments using a scientific method.
All core subjects of Math, Science, Language Arts, History, World Languages, as well as the Arts and Physical Education, have a curriculum that designates the skills and knowledge that students should be developing during each grade. The design of the curriculum is to maximize student learning by relying on prior knowledge to aid students in learning new material in a subject. This allows students to use reflective thinking which is an important facet of problem-solving and analysis.

Ukiah District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The schools in Ukiah follow the California Content Standards which are designed to provide clear standards for student learning. The standards described within each subject are what teachers use to develop their lesson objectives and they are the standards assessed on the statewide tests and in most classroom assessments.
We currently cover the following Ukiah-area school district: Ukiah Unified School District.
Keeping Informed: Recent Ukiah Educational News
- Redwood Valley Outdoor Education Program - The Redwood Valley Outdoor Education Program is a district run initiative in environmental learning. Students take one-day trips to the program's woodland site where they engage in workshops and outdoor learning experiences. There is also a film series, which is a nice introduction into documentaries for students. The RVOEP is led by teachers within the district.
- Garden Based Nutrition Program - The Garden Based Nutrition Program combines the opportunity to teach students about agriculture and nutrition, over good and healthy meals. Community gardens provide a place where students and families can participate in the growing of food served at school and each month there is a special harvest of the month. This program is in its early stages and through collaboration with community-members has great growth potential.
- Gifted and Talented Program - The Gifted and Talented Education Program (GATE) available throughout Ukiah Unified is designed to offer enrichment services to students who are excelling in the curriculum. Features of Ukiah's GATE Program are a guest artist to teach workshops and a robotics consultant to help students develop technical problem-solving skills. Students also are taken on field trips to local museums, botantical gardens, and sites in San Francisco.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.
