Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Utica District Curriculum
In Mathematics, students at all levels are expected to learn how to use math in their daily lives. This comes from learning basic mathematical components including a fluency in mathematical procedures, a fundamental understanding of math concepts, the ability to solve math problems, and knowledge of math procedures. These fundamentals start with learning numbers, basic arithmetic skills and move on to advanced algebra, geometry and statistics.
In the Language Arts program students learn how to read, write, speak and listen to develop the literary skills that will allow them to demonstrate a command of the language. Students begin with the alphabet and phonics to learn to read and talk and write about the reading material. Students move on to more complex reading material in both fiction and nonfiction and learn to use critical thinking skills to analyze the reading in terms of its structure, theme, and content. They then learn to incorporate these traits in their analytic and creative writing.

Utica District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
Utica City Schools utilize the Common Core Curriculum which is now the state standard for curriculum in New York State. The evidence and research-based curriculum standards have been adopted to ensure that there is standardization in the curriculum across New York State and that all students receive a quality education. The progressive curriculum starts with the fundamentals and then builds on these skills as a student moves through their school experience. Character education programs promote the development of responsibility, respect, and an appreciation for multiculturalism. These values are important as the community continues to become more and more diverse.
We currently cover the following Utica-area school district: Utica Public Schools.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: Digitized Children's Stories
For students and parents there is a website sponsored by National Geographic that has all the Grimm's Fairy Tales in digitized form for reading the stories together. The site has all twelve original stories and is based on the original English translation made in 1914. The stories collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm include Hansel & Gretel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Little Snow White, The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids, The Frog King, The Bremen Town Musicians, Little Red Cap, and Little Briar Rose. These are the original stories and older students may find them interesting to compare to the watered down stories of their childhood. Some of the stories are accompanied by audio.
