Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Villa Park District Curriculum

In Math, the curriculum specifies what students need to learn about computational and operational skills, functions in geometry, and the use of appropriate and precise measurements in the analysis of data. The problem-solving skills students learn in Math are also foundational in Science. The framework for Science lays out a plan for student investigation and experimentation of concepts across the basic scientific fields and teaches the knowledge base in biology, earth science, physics and chemistry. At the high school level, courses in Environmental Science, Technology and Engineering are also available.

The overall curriculum is modeled so that as students advance they are able to use the thinking and learning strategies from each subject in an integrated way and are able to work with new ideas and produce original work. Many subjects which students encounter during the high school years and in college require the use of multiple modes of thought, and students are prepared to succeed in these pursuits.

Villa Park District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The curriculum used in the schools of Villa Park provides a standards-based overview of expectations for teaching and learning in all subjects. The subject-specific curriculum details the skills, concepts, and learning strategies students will develop at their grade-level. Teachers use this to determine their daily teaching objectives and the various assessments students take measure their success with each expectation.

The curriculum for Language Arts is designed to promote critical thinking through reading, writing, speaking and listening to others. Students are expected to develop skills to decode words and meaning in text, to understand differences in fiction and non-fiction, and to develop their writing for a variety of purposes. This basis of communication and literacy skills provides the ability to analyze and evaluate information.

We currently cover the following Villa Park-area school district: Orange Unified School District.
