Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Yucca Valley District Curriculum
The Math curriculum describes how students will master the skills of numerical operations, algebraic operations, geometry, data analysis and other areas as they progress yearly through their math education. In English/Language Arts the curriculum describes how to bring about skills in reading literary and non-fiction texts, the writing process, and other communication skills. This design promotes critical thinking, problem-solving and other advanced thinking skills as students are on a path of deepening their knowledge.
For other subjects like the Sciences, History and Social Studies, Technical courses, and the many specialized programs in the schools there are curriculum developed that provide a similar organization to the content. By setting expectations through the curriculum, teachers are able to assess whether students are meeting the expectations or if more instruction is required. This prepares students for the next steps in their learning and ensures they are ready for future academic and professional pursuits.

This provides students transitioning from middle school to high school the many social and academic supports they need during this time. This school model helps 9th graders to focus on their goals and plan their high school education accordingly.
- Extracurricular Activities - The high school offers students a wide range of in-school and after-school clubs to join. With clubs focused on the Environment, Chess, Debate or Theatre, and many more, students should be able to find an activity that offers a fun learning experience.
- La Contenta Activities - The middle school in Yucca Valley has a number of clubs and activities for students to join. Recently, following on the excitement generated by the film The Bee, attention has been given back to the tradition of spelling bees. Students are encouraged to participate or try-out for this experience!
