I believe that every child can learn given the proper supports. Often students learn best in a one-on-one setting or in an alternative setting to the traditional classroom. It also distresses me when students struggle with math and I work to make a student feel less anxiety when approaching a math problem. My typical approach is to try to show the real world need for learning math and make it relevant.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked as an engineering for 14 years. Eight years ago I became a teacher and pursued my Master’s Degree in Education. The career change has made me very happy as I love working with kids and seeing them be successful.
I have been a Math/Engineering Teacher at Hillsboro-Deering High School in NH for seven years and will be starting my eighth year there in the fall.
I am an adviser for our Student Government and have taken the entire group (25 students) to two national leadership conferences. I have also worked in our Academic Support Center providing after school tutoring.
