EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

First and foremost, I believe all students have the capacity to learn if they put forth the effort and the teacher will differentiate the lesson according to the student’s learning style. I also feel that students need genuine positive reinforcement when they do things well and constructive feedback with remedial instruction when they don’t understand a concept.

Next, I feel teachers should try to incorporate some fun activities into the learning process so that it does not get too tedious and boring for the students. Lastly, I think students working in teams or peer tutoring is an effective way to reach all students because with this concept a student who understands a concept can be paired with a student who does not understand, and this is effective for both students. Finally, I love teaching, and I will probably be teaching until the day I die.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I received my Bachelors of Science Degree from Indiana University in 1984. I completed my Masters of Arts Degree from Ball State University in 1994.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught 6th grade all subjects for 11 years. When I left middle school education, I began working with young adults teach GED preparation in all tested areas. At that time, I also started teaching as an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech Community College and taught college success, developmental writing, and developmental reading. Presently, I substitute teach at the elementary and middle school levels.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

In my free time, I like to ride my bicycle for exercise, read books, and sew. I am a published author of a book written for middle school girls entitled Flower Child from Fish Village, which was loosely based on my life when I was that age.
