About Me
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that every child is unique and has something special to offer. With this uniqueness comes a special set of needs academically, socially, emotionally, and physically and it is our job as teachers to figure out how to meet these needs and help students reach their full potential. It is my goal as a teacher to create an environment where students feel safe and welcomed, are comfortable enough to be themselves and share their ideas and where they are excited about learning.
What is needed to create this environment is: (1) student centered learning, (2) incorporating student interests, (3) creating a sense of community, (4) ongoing assessment and constructive feedback and (5) commitment to professional development.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I completed my undergrad at Carleton University. My program was very management focused. I received a certificate in e-publishing from Algonquin College where I learned how to design and write content for websites. After completing that I got my TESOL certification and went to teach in Taiwan. When I returned from Taiwan I enrolled in teacher’s college where I am currently learning classroom management strategies, instructional strategies and methods for assessment and evaluation.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I taught ESL overseas in Taiwan from Aug 2012 – Aug 2013. I created and delivered daily lesson plans and administered tests. I also participated in parent-teacher interviews. I am currently enrolled in teacher’s college at Ottawa University. I completed my first practicum in a grade 1/2 class where I taught math, science, language and gym and am currently completing my second practicum in a grade 5 class.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I love to stay active and am always training for marathons.
