About Me

My Educational Philosophy is that for students to learn, they must want to learn. Once students want to learn, teachers must continue to keep the students interested as well as motivated. The best way I have found to do this is by tying what you are teaching into real life situations and scenarios. This allows the students to see not only why they need to learn it, but also see how they can use it in other ways besides passing the test at the end of the week or year.

I received my Masters of Education Degree in Special Education Services from UNC-Greensboro in 2009. My focus was on working with learning disabled students. I became a Special Education or Exceptional Children’s teacher in 2003 after spending thirteen years in law enforcement. I continue to challenge my students as much as I challenge myself to see how much we can teach and learn from each other.

I come from an educational family. My father was a college sociology professor until he retired. My mother was a daycare instructor and trainer before retiring. My father now teaches part-time and online.

I have over 30 years of combined teaching and tutoring experience.

When I am not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my family. During the summer, and fall I am a football official. I also like watching college and professional sports. Sometimes I can be found working in the garden or yard.
