Pasco District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The curriculum for English Language Arts in Pasco Public Schools is focused on helping students learn, understand, and use the nuances associated with reading and writing. Key focuses in reading are broken down into three strands: Understanding Meaning, Reading for Different Purposes, and Goal Setting for Students. The key focuses for writing are also broken down into four strands: Understanding the Writing Process, Writing for Different Audiences, Clear and Effective Writing Techniques, and Analyzing Writing. Students are required to take an English Language Arts class in every grade level, and they build on these skills at each level.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pasco District Curriculum

The Mathematics curriculum in Pasco Public Schools follows the Washington state math standards and secondary students in the district can choose from two mathematics paths. The Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 path builds on skills from the previous course to ensure success in all courses. In the Integrated Mathematics path, ideas are emphasized and skills to understand and master those skills are introduced throughout the series. Students are required to pass three years of math to graduate from high school and either of these paths meets those requirements.

The Science curriculum in Pasco Public Schools also takes an integrated approach to understanding the nature of science. In ninth grade, students take an integrated science course covering Earth Science, Physical Science, and Agricultural Science. In tenth grade, students take an integrated science course covering Life Science and Agricultural Science. In eleventh and twelfth grade, students can choose to take either Chemistry or Physics in either grade. Students are required to pass both the integrated science courses and one of the upper level courses to graduate from high school.

Keeping Informed: Recent Pasco Educational News

  • District Chess Club - Pasco Public Schools is one of the few districts in the state that offer a district wide Chess Club. This club serves thirteen of the district schools and over 300 students. Chess provides students will the opportunity to enhance their logic and critical thinking skills while doing something fun and productive with their friends. The district Chess Club has won many local and regional Chess tournaments.
  • Parent Center - Pasco Public Schools offers an education and resource center open to all parents of students throughout the district. The Parent Center offers all materials, including their website, in both Spanish and English to ensure they are reaching all of their parents. The Parent Center offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to all parents free of charge in addition to access to computers and Internet. They offer a student center for young children to utilize while their parents are taking classes or using the computers.
  • PowerSchool - PowerSchool is an online interface that allows parents to check on their student’s progress, grades, and discipline. Teachers are able to utilize this program to track all data relevant to students, enabling them to differentiate instruction when necessary. Parents are also able to email their students teacher directly through this program, which opens the line of communication between home and school.
