Opelika City School District fosters the students’ learning potential by challenging them each day in the core
and supplemental subject areas. In Language Arts, Opelika City Schools teaches each child to be a successful
and effective reader by engrossing them in literature and writing, and utilizing a consistent reading program
within the school system. Opelika City Schools believes that being fluent in all subject areas with their reading
helps each student work at their highest ability.
In Mathematics, it is important for each child to develop critical thinking skills while developing their mathematic
comprehension, proficiency, aptitude, concept, and fluency. The mathematics curriculum is a spiraling curriculum,
based on the Alabama state standards. Being aligned to the Alabama State Standards, the curriculum is

Chalk Talk: How to Prepare Your Child for the Tutoring Experience
Once you have made the important decision to hire a tutor for your child's learning needs, you can take a few simple steps to ensure the most worthwhile experience possible. Conferencing with your child's teacher will give you an increased understanding of where your child is struggling in school. Many times the student is unable to pinpoint where he or she is having difficulty; it is hard to explain and may not know where specifically the loss of understanding occurred. The teacher will also be able to communicate with you about the detailed areas your child is struggling in.
