Wahpeton District and Curriculum
The Wahpeton Public School District recently established the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (also referred to as CSI Wahpeton) to transition from individual school accreditation to district-wide accreditation by determining a set of educational standards and benchmarks. This new curriculum was based on input from students, parents, and community members, and certified teaching staff. The new plan establishes that students in the Wahpeton School District should receive meaningful instruction in a safe and supportive environment in order to develop skills for post-secondary success as well as life-long learning.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Wahpeton District Curriculum
The Language Arts curriculum is focused on students’ ability to participate in all aspects of the research process. Students are expected to be able to identify, understand, and summarize nonfiction texts in a comprehensive manner. Writing assignments are utilized as a major component of this curriculum for developing students’ communication and technical skills. Students should also become comfortable with conducting independent research projects and presenting them to a larger audience.
Research skills developed in the Language Arts curriculum will also be utilized in tandem in the science classroom. The Science curriculum focuses on using the research process as a tool for understanding basic science concepts. Students are provided with interactive projects that teach basic principles of life, earth, and physical science. Students are expected to develop skills such as asking appropriate questions, using valid research tools, and creating dynamic research projects.

Keeping Informed: Recent Wahpeton Educational News
- National Accreditation for Wahpeton School District - The Wahpeton School District has earned accreditation from the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation. The District now has two years to complete a set of nationally mandated improvements.
- Wahpeton Student Receives Award of Excellence - A Wahpeton student received the Southeast Region Career and Technology Center Award of Excellence for his outstanding service and academic excellence at the Center. Students must be nominated by faculty members, and up to two students may be recognized every month.
- Wahpeton Community Accesses Future Goals - The 2030 Comprehensive Plan for the city of Wahpeton accessed multiple city-wide issues with education being an important issue. Improvement for educational infrastructure is a current that the community is discussing.
