New Castle District and Curriculum
Colonial School District has one philosophy: That every child must finish school, college and career ready. From kindergarten to grade 5, the curriculum is designed around the textbook “Investigations in Number, Data, and Space.” This book is designed with children of the elementary school level in mind. It focuses on deep understanding of mathematics, rather than a simple and superficial approach. From grades 6-8, the curriculum transfers to “Mathematics in Context,” which was funded in part by the National Science Foundation. During their senior years, students will refine their mathematical abilities using “Core Plus.” This program prepares students for college and university levels, and is highly rated by the U.S. Department of Education.
We currently cover the following New Castle-area school districts: Colonial School District.

Chalk Talk: The Value of Good Mathematical Skills
While mathematics may not be every student's forte, it is every child's right to have access to an education which guarantees their ability to maneuver through day to day tasks as an adult without fearing numbers. Being able to perform basic mathematical tasks is as important as the ability to be able to read. When choosing the right school for your child, be sure to examine the school's approach to mathematics, ensuring that there is an integrated approach to teaching arithmetic, which encompasses every learning type. Children may be more inclined to learn mathematics through various formats, such as visual or auditory styles.
